satisfying shade for Jonah or withstand the east wind, so too is Nineveh incapable of repenting. Neither lasts. Thus Jonah’s anger is theologically motivated because Nineveh was not converted (they stopped doing wickedness but did not turn to Yahweh), yet mercy was given to them. Theologically, though, Yahweh’s mercy to repentant Nineveh is not a problem. Yahweh can show mercy to those whom he desires, regardless of whether they worship him.
